Position Description

Brief Description:
 
This utility position will support the RENEW Salt Lake City expansion. The successful candidate(s) will be a qualified and experienced machinist who will also be able and willing to work as an Assembler/Technician in the RENEW environment.
 
Key Accountabilities:
 
  • Set-up and operate Horizontal Boring mill (6” spindle) – knowledge of various operations performed, such as milling, facing, boring, drilling or cutting keyways.  Plan and make difficult setups involving blocking, aligning and securing of large irregular work pieces. Select speeds, feeds, tooling and operational sequences to a wide variety of work. Must have the ability to bore center distances and maintain accurate alignment to (.0005”).
  • Set-up and operate Vertical Milling machine for the manufacture of shaft and pinion keyways and miscellaneous milling and drilling operations on various parts.
  • Set up and operate Cylindrical Grinder for the manufacture of shafts and pinions. Will perform finish-grinding operations on straight and tapered outside diameters. Meeting required surface finish and dimensional specifications having tolerances of .0005”. Grinder may swing up to 60” in diameter and accommodate a maximum length of 144”.
  • Set up and operate manual Engine Lathes for the manufacture of shafts and pinions. Lathes have swing ranges from 18” to 36” and a maximum center distance of up to 144”. Perform rough and finish turning, facing, and forming operations. Duties may also require re-centering, threading, cutting tapers, and boring of various parts, some weighing up to three tons and having dimensional tolerances of .001.
  • Clean, inspect, disassemble, repair, reassemble, test, paint and ship Falk, Rexnord and competitor gearboxes.
 
Job Requirements:
 
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous machinist experience required.
  • Must be able to read blue prints, and possess basic mechanical, math, and computer skills.
  • Previous experience correctly using measuring equipment including: micrometers, vernier tooth calipers, and dial and electronic indicators.
  • Commitment to working a high level of overtime is an expectation for anyone considering this position.
 
Desirable Experience, Capabilities and Success Factors:
  • Journeyman credentials/training desired.
  • Prior overhead crane experience.
  • Technical school training is a plus.
  • Individual must be a self-starter, must work well with others, and must be willing to flex as needed.
  • Previous experience with Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement is helpful.
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • Use a team work attitude and know how to effectively cooperate and collaborate in a team work environment.
