About the Role

In the New Product Development Quality Engineering position, you would be located at our Advanced Technology Center in St. Louis, Missouri, and report to an Engineering Manager. The NPD QE will have primary responsibility for implementing the Watlow Quality Plan (WQP) with the product development teams across the Enterprise, to improve the quality of the product being introduced to production.

This role requires a self-directed individual with motivation to utilize the WQP tools with project teams being focused on defect prevention, and opportunities to develop process / product quality prior to releasing the product to production. The NPD Engineer will work closely with project teams as well as various functions within Watlow, including leadership, operations, engineering (development and manufacturing), supply chain, product/account management, and customer service. The NPD Engineer will lead the team to complete the WQP tools per the project plan to ensure product is released to production on schedule, with Quality metrics in place to measure the success of product release. This role will also require a good understanding of customer product requirements and quality system requirements as prototypes and production level product is delivered.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, execute, and evaluate project plans, identify gaps, and work with internal and external customers to develop their capability to meet expectations
  • Understand and follow all organization and department safety policies and procedures.
  • Lead/coaching product development teams using WQP quality planning tools, such as PFMEA, Control Plan, Gauge R&R, Capability Analysis, error proofing -Poka yoke practices.
  • Leading/coaching product development teams using the WQP tools to develop enterprise quality metrics (i.e. PPM, RTY, Scrap, etc.)
  • Leading quality focused programs, such as Kaizen/JDI events for product improvement
  • Flexible to travel to visit Watlow sites for production readiness reviews.
  • Read and interpret customer specifications and drawings for complex products and implement them into business processes, products and processes.
  • Provide coaching and feedback to less experienced engineers and technicians.
  • Directs and monitors the work of less experienced employees.
  • Other responsibilities as required.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, technical degree preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of Product Engineering
  • Mastery applying quality tools (i.e. Data analysis/Pareto, SPC, Error Proofing, MSA/Gauge R&R, Control Plan/FMEA)
  • Ability to speak and write English fluently.
  • Minimum of 1 year of project Management experience

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing concepts and tools and their application in product development.
  • DFSS Black Belt Certified
  • Product Launch Experience
  • Trained in statistical Problem-Solving Methods
  • Process Auditing Experience
  • Ability to lead through influence
  • Experience developing Product Control Plans and developing complex testing and inspection methods.
  • Experience with Error Proofing Methodologies
  • Well organized and maintains a detail-oriented mindset
  • Work Well within Team Environment and lead project teams formally or informally.
  • Excellent Written and Verbal Communication Skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Mastery in the use of various measurement tools/gauges, electrical equipment, temperature & power controls, temperature sensors, and fluid control devices
  • Self-directed and motivated to meet team defined goals and provide coaching/ feedback when necessary
  • Advanced mastery of advanced systematic/ creative problem-solving tools
