Job Description:

The Speech Pathologist is responsible for screening, testing, evaluating, diagnosing and treating disorders of speech, language, cognitive communication, voice, and swallowing. In addition, this position is also responsible for consulting, educating and training patients and their caregivers.

Primary Shift: Monday - Friday, 8 hours

Job Essentials

  • Provides clinical services, utilizing standards of care and evidence based practices, with appropriate goals, and duration and intensity of service for each patient's needs.

  • Complies with department and regulatory requirements and guidelines for all types of documentation charging, and scheduling.

  • Supervises and educates when asked, including colleagues, new employees and students and others in training.

  • Mentors student clinician externship/affiliations/ new employee(s).

  • Maintains effective and appropriate communication and relationships with other professionals, patients, families and other caregivers.

  • Participates in patient care conferences when appropriate, as well as staff meetings and other meetings as required or requested by supervisor.

  • Bedside AAC assessment and intervention in the hospital, to support communication access, rehabilitation and recovery, developmental support, and patient-provider communication;

  • Promotes communication access and interventions to all patients across the hospital

  • Provides pre-operative AAC assessment and communication planning services including Message Banking Services as appropriate

  • Provides family education, bedside provider training, and professional in-services

  • Participates in unit rounds, specialty team rounds, and case conferences

  • Participates in innovations projects focused on improved patient care and outcomes

  • Participates in hospital wide initiatives focused on patient-provider communication and communication accessibility;

  • Creation of an Inpatient Augmentative Communication Program

  • Collaborates with the outpatient program to coordinate follow up patient care as appropriate;

  • Participation in research projects and conference presentation is encouraged

  • Ability to work collaboratively with inter-professional teams in a fast-paced medical environment.

  • Receive training to be competent to assist with other medical and rehab caseloads, as needed


Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology. Education must be obtained from an accredited program. Degree will be verified.

  • Current state Speech Pathologist license.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers.

  • Basic computer skills (e.g., word processing and email).

  • Current certificate of clinical competence.


Preferred Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of Pediatrics experience.

  • Speech Pathology experience.

  • Experience in the broad scope of augmentative and alternative communication tools and strategies (no tech solutions through dedicated high tech solutions)

  • Strong independence, flexibility, compassion, organization, clinical writing skills, and team collaboration skill

  • Hospital experience.

  • Experience with the target population to be treated.

Physical Requirements:

Hearing/listening, lifting, manual dexterity, pulling/pushing, seeing, sitting, speaking, squatting/kneeling, standing, and walking.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

$40.41 - $62.34
