Albany Engineered Composites (AEC) is one of the most technically advanced designers and manufacturers of lightweight composite aerospace structures, subassemblies and components. This role is responsible for the continuous improvement of the department and provides leadership for the activities and personnel of the assigned group in a manner that obtains a safe, efficient, productive, and economical operation. This includes increasing the ratio of value to non-value and eliminating waste in the overall department for a defined product family and for ensuring that the product meets or exceeds customer requirements. This position achieves results through influence rather than direct control. The leader in this role must develop support for lean and quality initiatives by working through management at the site, Business Unit, and Functional levels. This position also requires an ability to balance standardization (corporate, group, site) with the need for tools and processes that are embraced by Albany.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Act as the overall management authority for the day to day production planning, manufacturing and shipment of each production program. (Authority to make tactical decisions across functional areas).
  • Ownership of department safety, quality, and performance.
  • Drive operational excellence and continuous improvement throughout the business unit.
  • Achieve business plan financial performance in all areas of influence.
  • Serve as a key link between Human Resources and production supervision in the management of safety, engineering and manufacturing staffing, staff utilization and performance coaching.
  • Lead, coach, or influence all direct and indirect employees affiliated with the business unit. This includes not only the Production Team Leaders and Operators but also the Manufacturing/CI/Engineering resources.
  • Responsible for staffing allocations between all production programs to maximize efficiency.
  • Serve as a key link between all functions of the business as they support the manufacturing process.
  • Execute planned production for current and upcoming production programs.
  • Drive production organization in execution of timely deliveries that support production program requirements.
  • Assist/coordinate with other organizational functions in the identification and implementation of process improvements.
  • Observe, support and contribute to Company safety programs, policies, and initiatives, ensuring a culture of safe work habits is prevalent within the organization.

Qualifications/Characteristics

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Industrial Management or related field, or current pursuit of the degree

Knowledge:

5 years of relevant manufacturing experience.

Good understanding of lean manufacturing principles.

ERP systems/fundamentals knowledge and understanding

A working knowledge of OSHA requirements in a manufacturing environment.

Skills:

Proficient in the use of Microsoft software (MSWord, PowerPoint, Excel) to enable the creation of work instruction and other production documentation.

Understand and interpret engineering drawings, with a basic understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).

Problem solving skills.

Extensive knowledge of lean tools such as 5S, Visual Factory, value stream mapping.
