Job Description

Roles/Responsibilities:

The Chemist I will prepare chemical solutions and operate analytical instrumentation and test fixtures. They will maintain a laboratory notebook on work performed, and will collect data and produce\review data packages. They will perform setup and takedown of laboratory for each unique test, as well as clean-up following test, including proper decontamination and disposal of hazardous waste. They will handle chemical warfare agent under engineering controls. The Chemist I will be responsible to perform work on tests involving Chemical Warfare Agents (CWA), Toxic Industrial Chemicals, Toxic Industrial Materials, or simulants of CWAs. They can expect to both work with a test team and alone on projects as assigned. They will generate documentation using MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and MS Visio.


Required Skills and Education:

The Chemist I must have a Baccalaureate degree in chemistry (or equivalent training and have one (1) year of experience with direct government or contractor supporting government laboratory operations contracts), other physical science, or engineering, and a minimum of one (1) years of laboratory experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience). Must clearly demonstrate capability to effectively generate and obtain data, evaluate data, define problems, and design experiments. Must be capable of planning and executing a project with nominal guidance. Perform duties as lead for team of analysts, lab technicians, and other chemists on test projects. Must be proficient in gas chromatography, spectroscopy, or other analytical instrumentation used in the laboratory. Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in all aspects of set-up, operation, sampling, calibration, quality control, data collection, and troubleshooting for test monitoring in a chemical agent or simulant environment. Must achieve Level III AgentvHandler certification. Must qualify for Personal Reliability Program. Must have clear, concise and accurate communication skills invEnglish, both verbal and written. Must have a valid driver's license to operate a variety of vehicles.

Security Clearance:

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
