Brown and Caldwell has an exciting opportunity for an Civil or Environmental Engineer experienced in planning, permitting, and design of water and wastewater treatment and conveyance systems. BC has well established projects throughout Utah and also has projects throughout Arizona and New Mexico as part of ongoing work with the Navajo Nation. This candidate will work closely with the team in Utah to support the Navajo Nation and other related water and wastewater projects. This opportunity will require periodic travel to remote locations in Arizona and will require close interaction with the BC team in Salt Lake City. The ideal candidate would have 4-8 years of civil engineering experience in the areas of water and wastewater conveyance or treatment and have a desire to take the next step in their career through supporting task leadership, project management, and client interaction. This is a unique, challenging, and very rewarding opportunity.

Salt Lake City is preferred work location but will consider candidates based in locations within a commutable distance to The Najavo Nation, i.e. Flagstaff AZ, Page AZ, Gallup NM or Phoenix AZ.

Detailed Description:

BC has multiple water and wastewater projects under contract in the west notably Utah, Arizona and Colorado that involve planning, design, and construction. These include all elements of potable water, wastewater, and reuse treatment facilities as well as pump stations and piping infrastructure. The candidate may be called on to serve as a project engineer, task leader, or deputy project manager for various water related infrastructure assignments. Specifically, the BC team that supports work in So. Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico for work with the Navajo Nation is in need of additional support. The candidate would be substantially assigned to work with the team supporting the Navajo Nation projects. The candidate would be expected to take direction from the existing team leadership but would quickly move to work independently on engineering tasks and would be asked to provide task leadership, project management, and client management. Opportunities to manage scope, schedule, budget, and client interaction within the Navajo Nation program will come quickly for the right candidate. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Prepare reports, memos, designs for water/wastewater infrastructure.
  • Serve as task leader, deputy project manager on water/wastewater planning and design projects.
  • Organize and facilitate team meetings.
  • Support design development from concept through final design, including review of work done by others such as reports, memos, and pilot studies to determine applicability for system improvements.
  • Participate in client and internal meetings to support and advance project work.
  • Serve as engineer of record for final deliverables.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
  • Minimum 4 years of increasingly responsible experience in municipal civil engineering with focus in the municipal sector. Projects that will be viewed more favorably include water/wastewater treatment facility planning and design and water supply transfer and conveyance.
  • Strong understanding of water/wastewater infrastructure systems including pumping, treatment, and conveyance.
  • Working knowledge of environmental laws such as the Clean Water Act, Safe Drinking Water Act and related permitting frameworks.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite of products.
  • Strong verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability and desire to work on multiple concurrent projects in a team environment.
  • Ability to collaborate with remote virtual project teams.
  • Will require periodic travel to remote locations in S. Utah, Arizona, or New Mexico. This travel is typically not more than once per month but could be as often as every 8-12 weeks with durations of 3-4 days at a time.
  • Desire to work in challenging sometimes remote outdoor environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • P.E. preferred.

Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee's primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Location A: $70,000- $95,000
