Overview

The Broadband Technician III position performs complex installations, disconnects and service changes for residential and business customers, including FTTH (Fiber to the Home) and support PON/Metro E. These services include, but are not limited to, video service, HSD Services, and home/business phone service. This position performs advanced troubleshooting from the tap to the customer’s electronic devices (TV, DVD, Modem etc.). This position will be responsible for installing, splicing, repairing and maintaining aerial, buried, and/or underground fiber optic and copper cable. This position will be knowledgeable of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of telecommunications.

Responsibilities

Perform complex installation of all necessary cable wiring (interior and exterior) and hardware from the tap to the customer’s equipment for reception of cable and other company services that are offered for single, multi-family, and/or commercial dwellings. Position may be responsible for inspection and correction of NESC safety violations for new construction builds, new service drops and legacy facilities, both overhead and underground, as it relates to the Oregon Administrative Rules (OARs) Division 0860-024 and 0860-028 governing joint use, as enforced by the Oregon Public Utility Commission (OPUC) Position may be responsible for the coordination of underground drop burial work with contractor and in-house underground burial crews, filling out, submitting and pickup up permits from government agencies as required to perform work in the ROW, tracking and updating status within the systems. Duties also include inspections ensuring that work performed meets all construction and government standards and pre-inspection verifies of serviceability of new customers regarding finding the best, most efficient and cost-effective routes to provide service.

 

Perform all work as necessary to conform to quality control guidelines (includes compliance with requirements outlined in applicable regulations such as: OSHA, FCC NEC and NESC).

 

Perform connects (new connects and reconnects), disconnects (requested and non-pays), upgrades, downgrades, relocates, install additional outlets, fiber connections, hardline cutovers, and install or remove equipment (i.e. converters).

Test equipment to identify and repair signal strength issues and ensure optimum reception. Use Locators, TDR’s, FDR’s and read system maps required.

 

Monitor and record system, drop, and in-house leakage; properly record all required information on work orders, surveys, referrals, etc.

 

Promote cable, internet, and other company services; educate customer on proper use of the service, including how to add additional services, channel lineups, proper equipment usage, and other services that are available.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

    2+ years’ cable installation & repair or professionally related experience -OR- current military service, or prior military service with honorable discharge.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Other Qualifications

  • Upon hire, must successfully complete customer-specific requirements, which may include a background check administered by the customer.
  • Must be reliable and responsible, with a strong work ethic dedicated to a team.
  • Practical knowledge/experience with computer applications.
  • Familiarity with company products and services.
  • Proven organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Requires being available for on-call/standby responsibilities and may require occasional travel. Demonstrated customer service and sales skills, as well as effective communications skills (verbal and written) for interaction with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Physical requirements may vary based on company needs: Ability to dig, lift and climb.
  • Successful completion of the SCTE Broadband Premise Expert course
  • Ability to pass Department of Transportation physical and driver testing.
